Well, there haven't been to many events in the area lately, but the Courtenay boys have been down to ride a couple times in the past week. On Friday we went for a burn around Duncan in the dark and hit all the unamazing street spots. It was a little damp but not too bad. But yesterday they came through in the daytime and we had a pretty good session at the park then the trails. Jeff Meija was with Adam Dyck, Nick Goodrich and Adam Stewart. Duncan local thuglife Jon Krull cracked his Miron frame, I guess he wasn't running his seatpost deep enough, because the seat tube is cracked just above the top tube. As usual he is progressing well. Matt Beyers was on a voyage the last I checked. He went to Montreal and then to Edmonton. Dont know if he's back yet. Its digging time again and I better go out and work on the trails some more. I want to get more lines running by the time Christmas comes around. I guess I'll have to stop being a lazy schmuck. Thats all for now.

Black Socks and Jogging Pants Jam went down on Saturday, and to my surprise it turned out to be a really fun day. It wouldnt have been half as good if it weren't for Matt and Caleb Beyers coming through with the barbeque. Thanks to all who pitched in on the food supplies, which was mostly Matt, Caleb and Rhauri from Manna BMX in courtenay. They had hot dogs, burgers and some nice soda pop selection as well as some chips. T'was good stuff ya. When people crashed we had the smash prize. I originally had planned to award it to whoever ate shit the hardest, or got the most pissed off at not pulling a trick, but it seemed more appropriate to give a smash to someone who crashed immediately after the fact. It was a shitty old garbage frame that needed to be destroyed, so it was very suitable. In the end, it was broken in two, and very dented and haggard. As for the riding, there was some good shit going down. Adam Dyck was smooth like butter, 540 taps, whips and all sorts of good shit. Justin Providourous (too lazy to find out the correct spelling so I guess) was doing some unique shit, like feeble to x-up rideout, 450's over the pyramid hip and just cool shit.Marc LaFauci whipped and 360'd out of the bowl. Crofton's Alex something, was doing all sorts of jumping tricks outta the bowl. Jon Krull spun enough to make everyone dizzy then hopped in fakie. We had some metal playing out of the stereo, and we had good times. After the park about 15 of us went and rode the trails. It was really fun too. Dusty from Campbell River, who's day job is Pro Motocross racing was flowing some cool shit. There wasn't any amazing tricks going down, just a lot of flow and style and i think everyone was having a good time. Everyone except Logan from Black Creek. he tumbled off the third set and bonked his head and couldnt remember anything and was repeatedly asking the same questions over and over until everyone was sick of it and they wrote it all on his arm. Funny; poor bastard. anyway, that was about it, I just want to say thanks to everyone who came, especially the 7-9 people who actually wore jogging pants. Adam and Ben actually specifically obtained the fancy fashion for the event, that was dope of them. Nick Goodrich had the best joggers of the day. THey barely covered his ass and were half way up his shins and were really tight. they were faded black with orange flames up the side of the calves. All I can say is 'awesome'.

This past weekend in Nanaimo, BC, there were two contests held on Friday and Saturday. On Friday, there was a box jump competition held on a shady setup. It was held on two boxes in a row. The first box was the one from the Flipside Indoor skatepark, and the second one was a four foot lip to removable wedge landing. It was a downhill setup and the second box was about half the distance of the first one, so for the brakeless dudes competing it was quite interesting, to say the least. To make things even more super, mountain bikers were allowed to enter in the comp and CJ was announcing. But the bmxers kept things positive and it turned out to be okay after all. Joey Pierce threw down some 360 lookbacks, trucks, whips, and nice no foot cans. Cody Merrifield busted out the best tuck no handers of the day, and Kyle Wood, and some kid named Alex from Crofton both did nice nothings. Mike Sorg almost pulled a turndown flip over the short version of the second box. I did a flip to a whip and a 360 to opposite 360 and that was good enough to win. Joey took second and Mike Sorg took third. Oh yeah, Surrey Steve was doing cool stuff too. He 540'd to fakie over the short box as well as turndowned and tailwhipped.
The next day was a park setup with some decent ramps on a shut off street in downtown Nanaimo. Adam broke things in by getting his fufanu on a three foot sub rail on a long trannied 8 foot quarter. He was killing it all day. In his run he did the fufanu to a whip over the box nice and clean as well as teching it up on the spine and slapping the wall. Joey did some nice stuff too, but my memory is clouded. I know he whipped the box and did some high walltaps, but thats all I can remember. Jason roll did some 360s over the spine. Morgan Turner did some footplant whips on the wall. Jon Krull did a 720 tap to fakie on the lip of the box. Surrey Steve was shredding. He 540'd the spine, clicked turndowns on the box, wallrides and more. Too bad he got ripped off in rankings. Probably has something to do with Joey saying, "ever done a turndown? Ever done a turndown on WEED?" That was in the finals, because Steve had just finished having a session. I ate shit pretty bad on a tailwhip and slammed my head hard. I was outcold before I stopped rolling. The footy is neat. It will be used in the next A4D video I've been told. I watched it shortly after the crash and my head smacked at the same time my shoulder did. Needless to say it sucked, because I was having fun and I thought I was riding well. However, Marc Lafauci was shredding and ended up with second. Jason Roll took third and Adam Dyck won his first contest ever. He was psyched because he was right broke, and is now 200 bones richer. Atta boy. Anyway, I am out of here, time for ibuprofin cocksuckers.

This is breaking news! The Black Socks and Jogging Pants jam will be happening September 20th, Saturday, 12 noon at the Duncan Skatepark. Matt Beyers has told me he will be bringing a BBQ, so bring your own meat to fry up. We're gonna have some heavy metal blasting, and whatever park hoes show up we'll do our best to pursuade into having a wet t-shirt contest or something. Matt and I are working on getting a couple prizes, but dont expect much, because it is just a day of riding and having good times. There will be plenty of stickers though, dont you worry your pretty little heads. Those who wear black socks and jogging pants will be awarded with praise and stickers. So you better recognize.
Other news: Metro Jam Vancouver went off and was unreal. If you werent there too bad, I am not going into detail about what happened. A little less pros turned out than I expected, but it was still amazing.
Bad News Beyers: Matt Beyers proceeded to fufanu the eight foot fence out of the seven foot quarter, and decided to fuf to ice it. He was forced to eject and twisted his knee when he landed. Something caused him a world of hurt, and the doctors think he tore a ligament. Shitty deal. Hope he heals quickly. He tells me he is passing his time by working on his clothing company - Indelible Inc. Hopefully we'll see some crazy good products hit the streets soon. He and Adam Dyck have been modeling some shirts lately and they look good.
Its almost trails season again. Unfortunately the municipality of North Cowichan doesnt agree right now. They have closed all the forests in the area, which includes the duncan trails, until it rains a little more i guess. I figure it would be best to wait until they take down the 'Closed' signs before I get at digging some more.
Thats all the news for now.
AUGUST 26th, 2003
I have decided that I need to work on my site some more. The only problem is that the host site, Tripod, is a money grubbing company. I dont blame them, but it is too bad, because it limits my bandwidth usage. I am not about to pay money to have more bandwidth because I just dont care that much. But anyways, I am going to try and maintain this site once again. Heres where the real news begins. Summer is almost over for all of you who attend school. I graduated in the spring from college and I dont have to go back to school. I should probably get a job soon though. I have been keeping myself busy by riding, digging at the trails and hanging with my girlfriend. Oh yeah, I do odd jobs here and there, and that helps pay the bills. The yet to be named Duncan trails are running pretty well right now thanks to the hard digging by Jon, Clint, and Kyle, as well as myself. Check out the pics on the trails page. The first line is almost complete, being a ten pack into a berm. The last set is almost hard enough to ride. It has been really dry lately so we've been packing in all the water, which is kind of difficult and makes progress slow. This fall the trails will be going off the hook. We have resorted to using anti-mountain biking measures because of a disease we were plagued with. It was called mountain bike-itis. We would dig a lot and come up after a couple days break and find case marks in the jumps. These aren't your regular case marks either; we're talking chainrings and tire marks half way down the front side of the landing. The tire tracks were like three inches wide, and totally knobbed. The mountain bikers dont get it. There are shovels all around and they won't repair the damage they do. So, we put up a little chain which has proven very successful thus far. If you are interested in riding these trails, I strongly recommend that you contact Jon Krull or me beforehand, or you will be shit out of luck, unless you can ride through chain.
This weekend is the Metro Jam in Vancouver. Everybody knows about this already, so I won't elaborate much. It will be a kick ass time for sure. Check it out. (www.metrobmxjam.com).
New sponsor Info: Matt Beyers is riding for Terrible One through Ten Pack, and has been quoted saying "this is the best bike I have ever owned." He is also riding for Duffs shoes and left 1664. I have been riding for Airwalk Canada for a couple months now and they have some really good product. Thats all I can think of right now.
Chase BMX Mag is shutting down. This is terrible news in my opinion, but I guess a company can only lose money for so long. It was amazing while it lasted. Thanks to the lads who put that together. There is a competition at the Garage Skatepark at the Nelson District Youth Centre November 1st, 2003. Check it out, those Jams are always the best. Nanaimo has some contest in September, check out bcbmx.com for info on that one.
That's all the news for now. Keep checking back for more. I promise I will update frequently.
